Heelprint 542 is a student-powered, faculty- and professionally managed creative agency within the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media. Students receive practical lessons in an educational environment and simultaneously work on real client projects in advertising, public relations, branding, and digital communication while gaining hands on, industry standard experience. Heelprint 542 is the next evolution of Heelprint Communications. The mission and student driven creative work remain the same, but the new model reflects additional alumni donor support and also adds faculty co directors and professional management to incorporate academic instruction, extend reach, expand opportunities, strengthen operations, streamline business continuity, and improve client outcomes.
How can students participate with creative agency Heelprint 542?
Students can apply to join within defined roles and pathways that include research, strategy, account management, creative, media, analytics, and production teams via an application and interview process. Current Heelprint Communications members will have a transition pathway into Heelprint 542 through an application and interview process. Students do not need to be Advertising or Public Relations majors to apply. All creative minds are welcome to join.
How does Heelprint 542 attract new business and secure clients?
Heelprint 542 will grow its client base through a mix of on campus partnerships, alumni referrals, and proactive business development. The agency will pursue and cultivate opportunities with UNC-CH departments—including Communications, Athletics, UNC Hospitals, and other campus units—while also leveraging alumni networks for project referrals. Externally, the agency will pursue new business through outreach, relationship building, and targeted advertising & promotional activities.
How can I hire Heelprint 542 to develop a campaign for my company's creative projects?
Potential clients will utilize a centralized intake process managed by the agency through its website inquiry form and/or by contacting the in-house Business Manager. A single portal for project requests ensures clear scoping, communication, and staffing for creative projects.
Does Heelprint 542 volunteer or provide pro bono services to local nonprofit organizations?
Heelprint 542 charges clients on retainer or with hourly consulting rates, based on project scope, duration, and needs. Nonprofit organizations are encouraged to coordinate with the service-learning opportunity provided within the School through MEJO 332-PR Writing, which assigns student teams to produce creative materials at no cost for local nonprofits.
What is the meaning and significance of name and number Heelprint 542?
In a nod to its origins and connection to the University’s longstanding Tar “Heel” icon, the familiar name Heelprint remains as a tribute to the founders of the agency and also serves to build upon a recognizable student brand. Additionally, 542 represents the true Carolina Blue color produced using Pantone 542 for branding and promotional materials.
